Where is the money held?

Excess proceeds are held by the county or, in some cases, by the court. Funds are not released automatically and remain on deposit until a valid claim is filed and approved.

Why didn’t the county send the money to me automatically?

Counties are not required to locate former property owners or initiate payments. A claim must be submitted with proper documentation before funds can be released.

Can I file a claim myself?
